I first met Lily Duffy at the place she works – PLAYA by Lucy Folk, a.k.a. the coolest new shop in
Bondi Sydney. Lily is super friendly and has a knack of somehow making you feel like you’re the only person in the room. She is a little sprite with a killer wardrobe. After walking into the shop on a balmy summer’s day, she won me over by offering me a water…which I’ve since learned is their standard practice, but regardless, she had me at ‘sparking or still.’ She is an artist who paints really abstract, playful work inspired by nature and brimming with colourful, impulsive brush strokes and the occasional bit of glitter. She lives in an airy studio with stunning views of Australia’s most famous beach and I was lucky enough to be invited in for a closer look at her little slice of paradise.
There is no shortage of pink in her Bondi pad, where her colourful artwork adorns almost every inch of the place.
Plants in the kitchen, always. Note the paintbrush in the sink. Love it.
LD: “My home to me means having a space where I am free and inspired to create at any time. It’s my freedom, my art studio and my sanctuary. Being in my own space where ideas and inspiration can flow is key for me.
I love that at one moment I can be in my zone, paint and be with myself and the next be able to entertain friends and have dinner parties.”
Lily was quite the hostess and served us delicious mint tea and yummy healthy drinks and chocolate while we were there. She is really into health & wellness, her day is always rounded out by a coastal walk and swim and she starts each morning with a lemon water which I tried too. I think I can still taste the oil of oregano. Just kidding, but I’m definitely more of a coffee girl myself 😉
LD: “What I love most about my home is sitting around my coffee table and watching the ocean. I can sit here for hours, drawing, sipping on tea or reading magazines – I love being up high and so close to the water! Having an aspect of nature so close to home is essential to me.”
The dining area is my favourite too, with those almost floor to ceiling windows letting in the sunshine and salty sea breeze. You can see why she feels so inspired to create from home.
Lily is really into crystals as well and has an incredible collection strewn all about her apartment. Must have been why I felt all those good vibes up there!
I loved the pops of colour and sense of playfulness in her decor – the perfect accessories to her art.
Her view is pretty spectacular!
